The CETO system is different from other wave energy devices as it operates under water where it is safer from large storms and invisible from the shore. The fully submerged buoys drive pumps and generators that are contained offshore, within the buoy itself, with power delivered back to shore through subsea cables to power desalination plants as well as for export into the grid.
The Buoyant Actuator (BA): interacts with the ocean waves to capture energy from their passing. Manufactured from steel to withstand the large forces acting on it. The Buoyant Actuator houses all the electrical generation equipment inside the device.
A single acting hydraulic pump, which converts the motion of the Buoyant Actuator into fluid pressure which is used to generate electricity inside the Buoyant Actuator.
A drill and grout pile is inserted into the sea floor, the CETO device reacts against this to cause the pump to extend as well as stopping the device floating away.
Tether: A Large synthetic , marine grade rope with specialised terminators, connects the pump to the foundation connector.
CETO’s use a highly specialised Foundation Connector which allows the device to be recovered without the need to deploy divers.
Electricity generated inside the BA is delivered to the umbilical through the BA Umbilical Connector. This specially designed connector allow wet-mating of the electrical system while at sea.
This device ensures that the umbilical does not become tangled or bend too far as the BA moves in response to passing waves
The umbilical connects the CETO device to the local grid, so that clean emission free energy can be delivered to the local grid in the most efficient means possible.
